The other day my aunt let me have a manicure as a gift. It was my second real manicure(remember, cheapo) so I was delightfully suprised. I asked for red nail polish with polka dots as it is my favorite print. The ladies seemed a little confused even though it was one of their sample manicures on display. I quietly observed as they did their thing, but I realized they had really cool tools to make the dots work. And of course at the end, they racked up the price and I don't think my auntie was very happy.
So after reading up on my favorite beauty blog, I realized that even without the fancy schmancy tools I could recreate the polka dot look myself.
And indeed, it was super easy actually. All you need is whatever color nail polish you desire (I used royal blue and white), a bobby pin, and a piece of paper to set some polish on(I used a gum wrapper). First, paint your nails the base color and let them dry. Then, place a few drops of the color you want the dots to be on the gum wrapper. Dip your bobby pin in paint on one of the rounded edges. Then just dot away on your nail!
See, it is possible to recreate this look for super cheap! The bobby pin does the same thing that their special rounded spotting tool did. And the gum wrapper held up the polish just fine. I definitely won't be going to that salon again:) And the blue and white worked perfectly for 4th of July with my red shorts!
